Introducing skin science, but not as you know it.
It’s a skin science company founded not by a fashion model or wannabe influencer, but by an actual cell biologist: Dr Iona Weir. Dr Weir has been a scientist for 30 years, and is in the top 4% of women creating patents in this field. But her interest in skincare wasn’t just scientific – it was personal. “I had skin problems for most of my adult life, and all the money I spent on so-called “beauty science’ not only didn’t work, it usually made things worse.” Iona also noticed that there were almost no skin science created by female scientists. “There’s nothing wrong with men creating skin care – they’ve got skin too! But women are different, right down to the cellular level. And I found there was a basic disconnect between what I needed, and what the beauty industry was trying to sell me. So as I’m a scientist, I thought I might as well figure out what was missing myself.”
Inspired by her doctorate thesis on the natural renewal systems of damaged cells in plants, Dr Weir started by asking “what if?” What if, rather than trying to replace systems evolved over millions of years with some industrial chemical, we could just give those systems a helping hand? What if these powerful and complex systems evolved to fit a world we no longer live in, and that’s why we see so many skin issues today? What if, instead of a cabinet full of ever-changing products, true, lasting skin care required less, not more? What if you already have what you need to overcome persistent issues already, right there in your own skin?

A decade of research, successful clinical trials, and multiple patents later and the next thing Dr Weir looks set to blow up is a big chunk of the beauty industrial complex. “Basically, the skincare industry hasn’t had a new scientific breakthrough in half a century. It’s hooked on retinols, retinols, and more retinols because it doesn’t have anything else. And because the industry’s hooked, it tries to hook its customers – mostly women – on them too. And that’s not good. While retinols are useful, too much, used too often, creates major side effects such as redness, thinning, sun sensitivity. There’s a short term benefit, but the risk of long term damage. My new research only reinforces this. So at Weir Science we’re going to put retinols back in their place, and bring in a new approach.”

At the centre of this new approach is Dr Weir’s patented Myrecil®, a biologically fermented set of isomers especially designed to reset natural cell renewal and defence systems like apoptosis and antibody activation. It’s so powerful and safe that as well as topical usage with creams, Myrecil™ can be used in capsule form to work along the gut-skin axis for true inside-out treatment. “My approach is not to restore and renew your
skin like most beauty products claim to, but to reset and reactivate your skin’s fundamental natural systems – systems that can go awry because of the mostly artificial environment we now live in. Once your skin has reset – a process over usually 30-60 days – you just need minimal maintenance, because obviously many enviromental factors behind the issues aren’t going anywhere.” And this new approach is creating a stir,
with clinical trials demonstrating Myrecil® is 60% more effective than the industry’s leading retinol, but with no side effects.
